Northern Blend: Harmony, Inc.'s Top-Ranked Chorus
Katie Taylor has been eating, drinking, and breathing barbershop since she joined Harmony, Inc. as a 12-year-old. Since then, she has come to direct this year's top-ranked chorus, Northern Blend, going into Harmony, Inc.'s 2017 International Convention and Contests on Nov. 1-4 in Halifax, Canada. Taylor, no stranger to the Queen's tiara, has won Harmony, Inc. Championships as a director (2010), lead (2015), tenor (2008), and bass (1996). Hopefully we'll see Taylor in the baritone spot soon! When Katie Taylor talks barbershop, you better listen!

Judging at Harmony, Inc.'s IC&C is serious business. International Contests are adjudicated by a panel of 3 Certified Judges, one for each category: Music, Presentation, and Singing. All judges (Area & International) are both appointed by and under the auspices of the International Contest & Judging Chair, Jacquie Jensen. Each January, formal judge training is held at the Category Training School and continues through the Category Directors. Harmony, Inc. states "Certification, requiring many years of training, is granted only after a candidate has demonstrated the skills necessary to consistently score and evaluate contest performances within the Harmony, Inc. guidelines".

Her performances of “See See Rider” and “Fulani Chant” earned her the “Best Soloist” award in 1994 from CASA.
