AP tests are over and finals are imminent. For a lot of high schools, senioritis has set in, and it's just a waiting game until graduation.
That is, unless your group is opening for 10-time Grammy Award winners The Manhattan Transfer.
New York's City Singers from Peekskill High School are getting the chance to perform during a leg of the legendary group's 45th anniversary tour at Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill on Friday.
The Manhattan Transfer became the first vocal group in 1981 to win Grammy Awards in both the pop and jazz categories.
"My passion as an artist is to provide my students with the most realistic, professional, musical setting as possible, as this will alter their personal and professional lives forever regardless of their life's ambition," said Peekskill choral director Larry Del Casale, who is a Latin Grammy nominee and has been leading the City Singers since 2012.
"Along with their stunning vocal timbre and rhythmic precision, the group's vocal range spans from low bass to high soprano one, covering all sectors of the vocals spectrum."
Del Casale explained, "It wasn't until September 2016 that the group first went out to sing the national anthem at an event at the Paramount Theater that sparked the interest of local venues in Peekskill and beyond, and soon the City Singers became the talk of the town.
