Thursday begins the competition (after Wednesday night’s opening ceremony) with both the quartet semifinals and the silver division contest.

The silver division is a contest for choruses that came very close but did not reach a total score of at least 792, which is the qualifying score to compete in the International Contest.

Since the qualifying rounds, they have had another six months to work on their musical and performance skills. Within this divisional contest, choruses that earned a total score between 744 and 791 in their qualifying round, now has another shot at Internationals.

The winner of the Silver Division Contest will compete in the third spot of the International Chorus Contest on Friday.

This year’s silver division has four entries: Shades of Harmony from London, Ontario; Harmony Sound Waves from New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Harmony Falls from Trumansburg, New York; and South Lake A Cappella Chorus from Oakland, Florida.

On top of the three contests and competitions, there are many special events and performances throughout the week.

There is an opening ceremony where we will hear from the brand new International Board of Directors (IBOD), Parade of Champions, Showcase of Champions, President’s Reception, Closing Ceremony, and more.

The parade of champions is one of the highlights of the non-competition side of Harmony Inc.’s IC&C. All of the former Harmony Queens, champions, and special guests who are in attendance perform in a setting completely unlike the contest stage.

There are once in a lifetime collaborations, comedic bits, and most importantly, a chance to experience the exuberance of some of the most renown groups in Harmony, Inc.

40 Years As Harmony Queens

Another one of the very special events, and dearest to the heart of Harmony Inc. is the Minor Chords.

The Minor Chords is Harmony, Inc.’s youth chorus that comes together and rehearses through the IC&C week.

Learning While Leading

Thanks to generous donations, Harmony, Inc. has been able to subsidize the cost of youth registrations (which include singers that are 25 years of age and younger) for those who come to the organization's International Contest & Conventions over the past several years.

To further illustrate the organization’s commitment to their youth members, Emily Travis and Bryn Lewellen will direct the audience in the Harmony, Inc. anthem at the opening ceremony.

This year’s director will be Audrianna Aragon, baritone from last year’s quartet runners-up, LowKey.

Can’t wait for Harmony Inc. this year? Check out all the awesome footage from last year’s International Contest and Convention! And of course, don't forget to tune in next week live right here on FloVoice.

The Effects Of Classical Music No Matter What Genre You Love

Incorporating pop music into traditional music education is a hot topic for school teachers as of late. However, the greatest thing about music is that you don't have to love and practice just one style or even just one instrument. In fact, some of the best musicians out there, pop or not, have a deep history with classical and traditional styles.
