New Release Roundup: Better Than The Original

Within the inner circle of a cappella, we all know that a cappella covers can be better than the original song—and it's happening more and more often. Here are this week's #FloFaves:

The Nor’Easters

Covers of Due Lipa’s New Rules are a dime a dozen these days, but The Nor’Easters knocked this one out of the park. Soloist Tiffany Fujiwara slays over a now-expected dense and complex arrangement from the 2017 ICCA Champions.

Axiom

Need your '90s nostalgia kick, only better? Nashville-based AXIOM released a full decade’s worth of a cappella goodness with "FRESH: A 90s R&B Mixtape," including this fun video for Tevin Campbell’s “i2i.”

Aquapella

OK, so Prince is an untouchable. But two-time U.K. A Cappella Champions Aquapella sure do this cover of “Purple Rain” justice. With the recent passing of Prince’s birthday and fragility of mental health in the news this week, it might be just the cover you needed to hear today.

MayTree

One of the hottest groups in Korea, MayTree actually released their live cover of “Payphone” back in March, but it ended up in the CASA forum this week and I fell down a rabbit hole of great music. The best news I discovered was the group actually goes live on YouTube every Wednesday—and they take requests.

Crimson & Slate

So we’re a broken record telling you how high school a cappella is better than it’s ever been. It’s better than a lot of things. Here’s a little Kelly Clarkson cover of “Love So Soft.” By teenagers. You’re welcome.

And while it's already been featured, we'd be remiss not to congratulate one of our #FloFaves on crossing one million views this week! Have you seen Face's version of "Parting Glass" yet? Because 1.1 million of your friends have.
