Big Stakes In AEA High School Competition

Now four years running, the AEA High School Invitational puts 10 incredible groups from around the country on a state of the art stage.

Big Stakes In AEA High School Competition

The A Cappella Education Association High School Invitational is now in its fourth year as a competition, but the stakes have never been higher.

On Friday night, 10 incredible groups from around the country will compete on a state-of-the-art stage for not only the title of national champions but also a new prize: Five. Thousand. Dollars. Previous winners include OSA Vocal Rush, Key of She, and Highlands Voices—two of whom are competing again this year at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, TN.

High School: Friday, 7 PM ET | Collegiate: Saturday, 2:30 PM ET

The competition kicks off a weekend at the 2018 National A Cappella Convention that includes the first-ever Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, a keynote speech from THE Deke Sharon, and a headlining concert by internationally acclaimed group Cluster. Attendees will also receive masterclasses and seminars from top experts in the vocal world, and both planned and impromptu performances.

So, who is up for the title this year?

The Highland Belles

Northern Highlands Regional High School | Allendale, NJ

The all-female counterpart to Highlands Voices has had a busy year competing in ICHSA and co-hosting the Highlands A Cappella Festival. They pride themselves on their family atmosphere and storytelling ability.


TAG (The A Cappella Group)

Cypress Lake High School | Fort Myers, FL

Founded in 2003, TAG is one of the longest-running contemporary a cappella high school groups in the nations. With 22 CARA nominations and six wins, you’ve likely heard one of their award-winning recordings on BOHSA or Voice Only or seen them in their many appearances at ICHSAs.


Take 7

Winter Park High School | Winter Park, FL

Now in its 10th year, Take 7 appeared at ICHSA Finals in 2012 and 2015 and was featured on BOHSA this year.



Noise Complaint

West Orange High School | Winter Garden, FL

One of seven vocal ensembles at West Orange High School, Noise Complaint requires a big commitment, with six rehearsals each week and is returning for its second appearance at NACC.


Legacy

Germantown High School | Madison, MS

With multiple appearances at Carnegie Hall, Legacy is definitely a contemporary a cappella group on the rise. They won Best Male Vocalist at NACC in 2017 and also recently performed at the MS ACDA Conference.


Key of She

White Station High School | Memphis, TN

The reigning NACC champions bring a powerful presence and message when they take the stage.



Highlands Voices

Northern Highlands Regional High School | Allendale, NJ

Winners of the first NACC competition in 2015, Highlands Voices have also been featured on Lifetime TV’s "Pitch Slapped" and were the ICHSA champions in 2014. Frequent performers for arts, music, and education conferences, they also host the Highlands A Cappella Festival each year.


Fifth Measure

Houston High School | Germantown, TN

The 2017 NACC runners-up were originally founded as a jazz group over 20 years ago. The group now performs a wide variety of pop and jazz music with choreography. 


Dolce Bella

Houston High School | Germantown, TN

They may not be traveling very far, but the ladies of Dolce Bella are excited to make their first appearance in the NACC competition. They frequently perform in their community and previously attended the National A Cappella Festival in Kettering, Ohio.


Bulldog Beats

Louisville Male Traditional High School | Louisville, KY

Now in their fifth year, the Bulldog Beats were the 2017 grand champions of Voice in Harmony, where they also won Outstanding Student Arrangement and Best Vocal Percussion. Active in the a cappella community, they host Acapocalypse each May and have traveled to numerous festivals around the country.
