The Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA) have honored the best of the vocal community for more than 25 years. Now viewers at home are able to watch all of the pomp and circumstance of the 2018 CARA ceremony LIVE this Sunday, courtesy of FloVoice on Facebook Live.

The CARAs honor every level of achievement, including high school, collegiate, amateur, and professional performers, with awards by genre and continent. More recently, CASA added categories for Best Debut Album, Best Solo Project, and Best Collaboration, as well as several awards for Best Arrangement. Both full albums and individual songs are eligible. All music must be all-vocal and include no instruments.

This year 49 CARAs will be awarded to some of the 276 nominees at The Rockwell in Somerville, MA.

Some of this year’s standouts include:

OneVoice: This strong group of students from Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee, has already taken home numerous CARAs for previous efforts. This year OveVoice is nominated for two separate albums in ten different categories.

The Nor’Easters: The reigning ICCA champions and AcaOpen runners-up are a double threat due to their prowess in the studio. Their newest album, “COLLECTIVE (Vol. 1)” was nominated for six awards and their holiday single, “Carol of the Bells,” is up for Best Holiday Song.

The Newfangled Four: This group received four nominations for their debut album, “The Newfangled Four,” including Best Barbershop Song, Best Barbershop Album, Best Professional Arrangement for a Non-Scholastic Group, and Best Debut Album.

Pitch Slapped: This standout group from the Berklee College of Music received six nods for their latest album, “Complexion,” with the track “Beggin & Pleadin” nominated for both Best Mixed Collegiate Arrangement and Song.

The Swingles: Let’s be honest—just about anything coming from The Swingles is going to wind up on a nomination list for best… anything. Their newest album, “Folklore,” is up for four different awards.

About The CARAs

The CARAs were created by the Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) in 1992 to reflect the organization's mission to “reward artists that create outstanding work and to promote innovation, creativity, and continued growth of the a cappella modality.” In 2012, the CARAs added a live awards ceremony and a pre-ceremony red carpet during the annual BOSton Sings Festival.

How To Watch

Tune in Sunday, April 8, at 12 PM EDT to see who will take home this year’s CARAs! Check in a little bit early to watch the nominees and presenters arrive on the red carpet at The Rockwell.
