Top Midwest Groups To Contend For Chicago Sweeps Title

Hosted by reigning National Harmony Sweepstakes champion The Sound Exchange, seven of the top groups in the Midwest will take the stage at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, Illinois, on Saturday night to see who will win the Chicago Sweeps title and a trip to National Finals this May.

Among this diverse group of competitors, the nearly sold-out audience will see talent from four states and a multitude of genres.

This year’s competitors are:

Counterpoint Acapella

An active group at Loyola University Chicago, this mixed group sings everything from Ariana Grande to Bon Iver to '80s hits. They love entertaining audiences in Chicagoland and can’t wait to wow the judges. To tide you over until you can see their full set on Saturday, here’s an acoustic video from earlier this year:

Crimson Cadence

Close harmony and vocal jazz is the mission for this Indiana University group. Well, that and a fun trip to Applebee’s! Drawing inspiration from greats like Take 6, The Swingles, and Groove for Thought, this octet really digs into those complicated chords:

Due North

A quintet out of Twin Cities, Minnesota, this group pulls from an eclectic musical experience. With most of its members coming out of UW-Eau Claire, their strong blend and undeniable PTX-influence should serve them well in competition.

Final Melody Acapella

Ranging in age from 15-20 years old, this group of men started singing in harmony at a very young age. Their humble beginnings were at open mic nights at the local McDonald's and they have since blossomed to appearances on national television and radio programs. Perhaps one of their happiest moments was being invited backstage to sing for their idols, Take 6.

The Northsiders

Last year’s runner-up, this rat-pack inspired barbershop quartet is ready to use all of its years of experience on the Sweeps stage to impress the judges. Will this be the year The Northsiders make it to California?

Remedy

The University of Dayton student group recently placed third at its ICCA Midwest Quarterfinal and earned Outstanding Vocal Percussion. Here’s a clip from Remedy's 2017 competition performance:

Vocal Chaos

This group has taken many forms since formed in 1996 and was featured in the movie “The Break-Up.” With a new album on the way, Vocal Chaos is ready to take the Sweeps stage again. Here’s a clip from the group's 2015 performance:
