9 Standout Northeast Groups Move On To ICHSA Semifinals

ICHSA Northeast Quarterfinals have wrapped up and a stellar lineup is booked for the Semifinals at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts, on March 24.

Here are the Northeast groups to watch:

The 18 Wheelers

Wheeler School (Providence, RI)

Quarterfinal Score: 315

This group has competed with great success, and its recordings have been selected for numerous compilations. With a third-place finish at quarterfinals and an Outstanding Solo by Sana Iqbal for "Dancing On My Own," The 18 Wheelers will try to add to their resume with another appearance at Semifinals.

Accent A Cappella

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School (Sudbury, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: (Not Published)

While Dramatic Paws of Johnson City Senior High School took second place at quarterfinals, a conflict with their musical required them to drop from further competition. This opened the door for the fourth-place finisher, Accent, to move on to the Semifinal. The quarterfinal performance by this student-run group was strong and included an Outstanding Soloist accolade for Simon Perry and Madelyn Paquette for their take on "Attention."

Falconize

Danvers High School (Danvers, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: 374

This well-established mixed group most recently earned third place at ICHSA Finals in 2015. We also got to see them rock the streets of Salem at Haunted Harmonies. Falconize took first place at their quarterfinal, and Bella Burrell earned Outstanding Arrangement for the group's full set.

For Good Measure

Mohonasen High School (Schenectady, NY)

Quarterfinal Score: 277

This relatively new group first competed in 2016 and took home first place at this year’s quarterfinal. Nathaniel Finke was awarded Outstanding Vocal Percussion and the group earned Outstanding Choreography for its whole set.

The Sachimes

Saugus High School (Saugus, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: 350

Founded in 2016, this group is already making its mark on the high school a cappella scene. With two straight years of standout performances at Haunted Harmonies, The Sachimes took home third place at their quarterfinal and standout Juan Lopez won Outstanding Vocal Percussion.

The Thursdays

Chelmsford High School (Chelmsford, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: 433

Surprising no one (especially those who saw their performance at N.E. Voices), The Thursdays took home first place at their quarterfinal. Sydney Baron, Emma Dewiit, and Sam Segal received Outstanding Soloist honors for their take on "The Chain." Abhinov Muraleederan won Outstanding Vocal Percussion and Emily Bruce captured Outstanding Arrangement for her original composition, "Easy As I Go."

Vocal Point

South Glens Falls High School (South Glens Falls, NY)

Quarterfinal Score: 209

The most selective and challenging vocal ensemble at its school, this standout group from upstate New York earned third place in addition to Outstanding Soloist by Brandon Sarti for his rendition of "You Will Be Found."

Voices of Steel

Wakefield High School (Wakefield, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: 376

In their signature red Converse sneakers, VOS took second place and Alto Nina DiCarlo won Outstanding Choreography. No stranger to competition, VOS is a three-time N.E. Voices champion and won Salem Pitch Trials in 2015.

WitchPitch?

Salem High School (Salem, MA)

Quarterfinal Score: 374 (Time Penalty)

WitchPitch? has made multiple appearance at Semifinals since joining the New England a cappella scene in 2009. The group took second place and collectively earned Outstanding Choreography for its full set.
