What Do You Know Of 'The Unwritten Law?'

After starring in Vocalosity and In Transit, Drama Desk Award recipient Chesney Snow set out to tell his story and that of his family in a bold new way.

Snow teamed up with director and choreographer Rebecca Arends to craft a "spoken word" piece (featuring cello, piano, and of course, Snow's beatbox) accompanied by dance. The end result was "The Unwritten Law," an original work based on Snow's incredible journey from homelessness to Harvard University to Broadway.

This Monday, August 14, is your last chance to see the show's current run at Dixon Place in New York City.

FloVoice has also released 3 scenes in their entirety.

A Conversation With The Creative Team

In the piece, the two dancers (Arends and Maleek Washington) never speak but take their cues from Snow's words rather than the musical accompaniment behind them. "The Unwritten Law" provides an inimitable experience for the dancers to get to act without needing to use their voices.

Maleek Washington Doesn't Want To Sing

"The Unwritten Law" is theatre unlike you've seen it before. Combining spoken word with beatbox and dance may not be revolutionary, but Snow's story told through various artistic disciplines coming together is truly special and unique.
