Are You Ready To Get 'Gobsmacked!'?

The "amazing a cappella and beatbox show" Gobsmacked! just announced it's first US tour, which kicks off in October and runs for 120 performances.

Gobsmacked! is a theatrical music show. It sits in a gap between a concert and a musical.  They're not trying to tell a literal story; there's so much more to then show than in your average concert.

There's a zany and charming concept about a mad musical genius who is struggling to create his masterpiece. That genius is Ball-Zee, their world-class beatboxer. He forges 6 beautiful vocal monsters to help realise his work.

Gobsmacked! first hit the stage in August of 2015 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and after years of refining, the production is hitting the road

"This run of 'Gobsmacked!' is our first large-scale tour of the show." Co-Creator & Musical Director Jack Blume (Pitch Battle) told FloVoice. "It's bigger and more exciting than the previous versions, with new cast members, new arrangements, and stunning new set design - we can't wait to bring it to America to play in some vast and prestigious venues!"

A Little Taste of Gobsmacked!

Billed as "STOMP for voices", Gobsmacked! not only showcases modern a cappella with a full staged production, but also "weaves an urban tale of love, loss and redemption".

In the year since it was last on stage, the creative team has been meeting to develop the show/work out which aspects audiences love and what it's still missing.  They're then casting in preparation for this tour.

"I don't think Gobsmacked! can be compared to existing touring a cappella shows." Blume said. "Our cast of talented vocalist/performers have been put together and rehearsed specifically for this show, and some of them have never sung contemporary a cappella before this, but they're raring to go.

"We have West End performers, an X-Factor Finalist, and yes, the best beatboxer you'll ever see. Groups like The Swingles and Pentatonix are at the absolute pinnacle of a cappella precision with years of experience together make them immaculate at what they do. But the format and casting of Gobsmacked! allow us to bring a much more novel and all-encompassing theatrical experience to the stages than any existing group can.

A Cappella is certainly at its peak in terms of global interest, and Gobsmacked! wants to keep mainstream audiences enthralled by the art form.

The cast of Gobsmacked! will bring a cappella singing to an even wider audience of theatre goers who don't currently know how jaw-dropping the art form can be!

It's no surprise that the future of barbershop is fostered by youth participation. While there are many youth choruses to be very proud of, quartets at the same age level are singing one person to a part and are achieving something else entirely. This #mondaymorning, we're spotlighting three of the best!
