Air Force Academy Group Rises From 'In The Stairwell' To National Stage
As many vocal groups know, a stairwell is one of the best acoustic spaces to sing in besides a tiled bathroom.

For the Air Force Academy's all-male a cappella group, the tucked away area was not just a rehearsal space but also a source of inspiration for its namesake.

Hailing from Colorado Springs, Colorado, "In The Stairwell" was formed by freshman cadets in 2004. At the time, the dorm stairwell was the only place the group's members were allowed to practice.

From its humble beginnings, In The Stairwell has risen into the national spotlight this year as contestants on NBC's "America's Got Talent."

America the Beautiful

In week three of America's Got Talent, In The Stairwell was one of 12 acts to perform in front of the judges. The group's rendition of "Drag Me Down" by One Direction earned nearly universal acclaim and also clinched In The Stairwell a spot in the next round.

The Star-Spangled Banner

"Performing for AGT judge Simon Cowell was by far one of the coolest experiences that our group has ever had the opportunity to be a part of," In The Stairwell vocalist Thomspon Knox said. "America will be surprised."
