Last week, the Mitchell Area Community Theatre announced that it had finally scheduled Emmy winning group Tonic Sol-fa to perform on September 9 at 7:30 PM.

"They're just phenomenal singers and they put on a great performance," said Tim Goldammer, president of the Mitchell, South Dakota, theatre's board of directors.

Booking the Minnesota-based group hasn't been simple since it is "very popular" in the Mitchell area, according to Goldammer.

With three PBS specials in the can and their original song "Sno" being featured on the "12 Dogs of Christmas" video, it's no wonder Tonic Sol-fa gigs more than 100 times a year and have been voted one of the "top five" groups to see in America. Their 2010 Emmy for "Original Musical Composition" and two Independent Grammys for "Best Original Holiday Song" and Best Pop Song" didn't hurt either.

Goldammer expects a sold-out crowd and said the a cappella performance "will benefit the community as well as the theater."

"Something Beautiful"

As a community theater, we always think it is important to bring different performers and performances that really enhance the community's experiences with different arts.
"Having released more than 10 CDs and selling more than 2 million albums, Tonic Sol-fa is a group many from around the region will come to see," Goldammer said. "For the ACT to bring this group to Mitchell is very exciting!"

Some Vocal Advice From Tonic Sol-fa

The New York Times described the group's sound as "a vocal kaleidoscope... unique to the human voice."

"It's just fun to bring to Mitchell artists that have some name recognition in the area and aren't somebody we see every week or every month," Goldammer said.
