As the Music for All National Honors Festival kicks off in Indianapolis this Thursday, we’re welcoming a new kind of beat to FloVoice.
One of the first events of the weekend will be the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival from the Warren Performing Arts Center. This event will feature ten of the nation’s most outstanding high school percussion ensembles in a 25-minute performance followed up with extensive evaluations, clinics, and masterclasses.

Thursday's performers include:
Directed by acclaimed percussionist, Steve Lundin, the DeKalb High School Percussion Ensemble includes every percussion student in the school’s instrumental music program. Students also participate in marching band, concert bands, and symphony orchestra.
They are returning performers at the National Percussion Festival and have also performed at the Percussive Arts Society’s Illinois Day of Percussion and the Illinois Music Educator’s All-State Conference.
With a school and program only 10 years old, director and veteran educator Sue Alexander had her work cut out for her. Starting with a small pep band and soon thereafter a competitive marching band, the percussion ensemble was added in 2009. The Swamp Foxes are ready to impress under the direction of Chad Pence and percussion coordinator Bill Register.
Part of the nationally recognized Mustang Band, this program has won honors from Bands of America, TMEA, UIL State Marching Contest, Midwest Clinic, and UIL Sweepstakes under director Greg Dick. This will be Friendswood's first appearance at the National Honors Festival.

The Matador Band is looking forward to this "once in a lifetime" opportunity and travels to Indianapolis under the direction of Stan Mauldin and percussion specialist Craig Turner. The group has worked hard with fundraisers, coachings, and concerts to prepare for the trip.
The Klein Forest High School band keeps a very busy schedule under director Ryan Barker and percussion director Joseph Macmorran. Supported by the Band Booster Club, the program aims to achieve the highest standards of education and performance.
