Meet The Irish Competitors Part 1
Now in its second year, the competition returns as part of the Irish International A Cappella Festival for a bigger event on Saturday, July 15, in Dublin. The competition is now divided into two categories: small ensemble and large chorus. There are seven semifinalists between both categories, and a combination of four finalists will progress to the Grand Final held on the same day at 7 PM.
Here are the Small Ensemble competitors:
Lady Barbalade is a four-piece all female barbershop quartet that recently competed in the Navan Choral Festival's Choir Of the Year Competition.
Síonra is also an all-female group and takes its name from "the calming atmospheric elements."
With their "penchant for interesting and quirky arrangements", Vocal Point stands out among other quartets.
The competition will be judged by a panel of three judges along with IIACF artistic director Ciarán Kelly as chair. The adjudicators are John McGlynn (Ireland), Alex Haigh (UK) and Ollie Lambert (UK).
There are a number of prizes up for grabs, with the overall winning group receiving the Ireland's A Cappella Competition 2017 bespoke trophy and a FREE recording session at Windmill Lane Recording Studios, sponsored by Dublin Studio Hub.
There will also be a winner from each category chosen to participate in a masterclass with IIACF headlining act The Swingles the following day at The Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Also, one lucky group will be handpicked by the festival composer in residence Ollie Lambert for an exclusive tailored arrangement of a song of their choice written especially for them!

"As contemporary a cappella audiences throughout the world continue to grow, it is only right that Ireland stands with the rest on an international level," Kelly said. "By bringing The Swingles to Dublin, we hope to inspire hundreds of vocal enthusiasts who may not have heard their unique sound before.
"With so many performance opportunities for Ireland's A Cappella Competition entrants and performances by the best a cappella artists Ireland has to offer, IIACF is sure to be an a cappella feast for everyone -- We can't wait!"
